Everyone is welcome
to attend to hear: the ULMS update; upcoming SULYP
events; volunteer opportunities; special announcements and also
network with other like-minded individuals. June's meeting
will wrap up our fiscal year of programming and we'll also
hear from candidates running for SULYP's '08-09 Officer
positions. Please attend to also congratulate the chosen Member and
Committee of the Year! Membership dues will be collected at
this mtg to allow you to be a dues-paid member for the new
fiscal year and receive member benefits in the upcoming months.

Annual Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle Golf Tournament
& Silent Auction @Trilogy
Golf Club at Redmond Ridge (1825
Trilogy Parkway NE, Redmond 98053) @ 8AM (shotgun start). We had a
blast last year with four teams and plan to do it again this
year! If you're interested in joining a team or forming your own,
please email:info@sulyp.org. SULYP members receive a special
discount but spots are limited and on a first come, first
served basis. Contact us or register by completing the SULYP golf
tourney registration form here by 6/16.
Wednesday,
July 30th thru Saturday, August 2nd -
National Urban League & National Urban League Young Professionals Conference at the
Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Conference Center in Orlando,
Florida. We took several SULYP members last year, had a great
time and returned with three national awards! We have
several attending so far, so join us! If you're interested,

Saturday, August 23rd -
3rd Annual BBQ at Woodland Park. All SULYP
members, friends and family are invited to indulge in good food, good
fun and networking again this year! This annual bbq will be the
ultimate social experience as we prepare to kickoff a new fiscal
year of programming or as our Tagline states, "making
a difference, building connections". Additional details
to follow, so be on the look out for the special invite this Summer!

Events ...
2nd Annual
SULYP Golf Clinic
In preparation for the ULMS golf outing, about 15 SULYP
members and friends came together to receive a few hours of group and
individual lessons from a golf professional at Trilogy Golf Club at
Redmond Ridge Sunday, June 8th. After obtaining lessons
about form, swing, selecting the best clubs and a little information
regarding etiquette, the attendees were able to practice and apply
what they learned. At the end of the day, everyone was charged and
excited and many committed to returning to the course to practice more
and/or obtain additional lessons.
3rd Annual Development Summit - From
the Ground UP: Building a Bridge to Success
The Seattle Urban League Young Professionals, in partnership
with Blacks @ Microsoft, held our 3rd Annual Development Summit at
the Microsoft Conference Center Saturday, June 7th. Over one hundred
attendees enjoyed a continental breakfast, a small business fair, two
panel discussions and a networking lunch with a national motivational
speaker. The speakers focused on positioning ourselves for success
in the areas of civic engagement and economic empowerment. For more

SULYP's Inaugural Youth Basketball
Tournament
On May 30th SULYP hosted the inaugural "Leadership on
the Court, Leadership in Life" basketball tournament. The event was
a partnership between SULYP, Seattle University and Seattle Parks and
Recreation. Seventy student-athletes representing six local Community
Centers participated in the tournament. Students were rewarded for their
sportsmanship, leadership and community service commitments. Coaches,
parents and community volunteers were also recognized for their ongoing
support of the players' academic and athletic development. The twenty
SULYP volunteers hyped up the crowd, refereed the games and managed the
score board. In the final game of the night, "Team SULYP" was
defeated by the teens from Rainier Community Center, 11 to 23!
Whew... we tried!
As a part of the Seattle Public Utilities' clean-up
program, SULYP adopted the area around the ULMS building in May.
About 22 SULYP members and friends volunteered in
this "Neighborhood Clean Up" in the central district. It
turned out to be a great day for cleaning and making some new friends!
This was a great opportunity to give back to the neighborhood as well as
ULMS. A special thanks goes out to the CEO of the Urban League, Mr. James
Kelly and the Urban League Board member, Mylene Barizo. They got their
hands dirty sweeping, pulling weeds and sweating under the hot sun!
SULYP Bowling
Social
About 15 SULYP members and friends engaged in a
few hours of competitive fun at the Garage Billiards and Bowling
last month. It was the first bowling outing SULYP has hosted and it
surely won't be the last! Friends, family members and co-workers are
always welcome to these events. For more info on upcoming events like
